For as long as I can remember, I was told not to get above myself. Don’t expect too much from life. People like us don’t go to university. Get your 9-to-5 job, pay your bills, and that’s life. These words were spoken as if they were universal truths—unchallenged, unquestioned, and deeply embedded in the way many women are raised.
But deep down, I always wanted more. Not out of greed. Not because I was ungrateful. But because something inside me refused to accept that life was just about survival. I knew there had to be more, and I know so many other women feel the same way.
The truth is, wanting more is not selfish—it’s natural.
The Caregiver Trap
As women, we are natural caregivers. We nurture, we support, we give. But in doing so, we often put ourselves last. We’re taught that sacrificing our dreams, our needs, and even our well-being is what makes us ‘good’—a good mother, a good wife, a good daughter, a good friend. But how can we truly support others if we are constantly on our knees, exhausted and depleted?
We cannot pour from an empty cup.
It is time to shift this outdated paradigm. It is time to step into our own power—not with guilt, but with love, respect, and self-worth.
Reclaiming Your Power
So how do we break free from these limiting beliefs and claim the lives we deserve? Here are some powerful steps to begin the journey:
Release the Expectations of OthersThe voices that told you to ‘stay in your place’ were repeating their own limitations—not yours. Let go of the weight of their beliefs and redefine what success and fulfillment mean to you.
Give Yourself Permission to Want MoreYou do not need anyone’s approval to dream bigger, to seek joy, or to build a life that excites you. You are allowed to want more without justification.
Prioritize Yourself Without GuiltSelf-care is not selfish. It is essential. Nourishing yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically makes you stronger, more resilient, and better able to support those you love.
Surround Yourself with EmpowermentSeek out those who uplift and inspire you. Distance yourself from those who drain your energy or belittle your aspirations.
Take Bold, Aligned ActionDreaming is the first step, but action is what turns dreams into reality. Start small, but start now. Every step forward is a step toward your power.
It’s Time to Stand in Your Power
You are not here just to survive. You are here to thrive. To expand, to create, to experience the richness of life in all its forms. And the moment you embrace that truth, you will begin to step into the fullness of who you were always meant to be.
This is your time. Let go of the thoughts and beliefs that have held you back. Stand tall. Stand strong. And claim your place in the world with love, respect, and unwavering self-worth.
Because you, my love, deserve it all.
